Snetterton Pre-Race Report
Boolie Werthan | September 28, 2008
There’s nothing Miss Daisy likes more than a good Sunday market (except perhaps for a boot fair where she has an unfair advantage) so one of her favourite destinations is Snetterton where the race circuit is bordered by the local market. This weekend sees a double header which not only brings the curtain down on the MGCC season but also includes a 4 hour relay finale in which Miss Daisy and a few friends will participate.
Two rounds of the MGCC PBIC kick off on the Saturday with the final round at the unearthly hour of 9.00 a.m. on Sunday, which we will try to attend, although it obviously clashes with church service and market commitments. As far as the series is concerned, various people who have overtaken us throughout the year are challenging for various honours and if you want the full low down on this, why not log onto jonesey-racing.co.uk which, with its gossip, celebrity and embarrassing photos, is the series equivalent of Heat Magazine! All it lacks are fashion tips; no doubt Michael Piggott and the series very own resident Dandy and Protégé Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, Dave Brooke, will be drafted in for that very purpose.
As for the racing, Miss Daisy will be doing her best to keep out of the way and allow those that take these things rather more seriously than us to pick up the relevant prizes.
In the Sunday relay, we are quietly confident of lasting the distance thanks to our cunning plan. Whilst most teams appear to have adopted the six driver, six car approach, Team Miss Daisy will simply be using our ample pay load to carry on board a small tanker of petrol and running for as long as we can. Although this could be regarded as a Spanish practice, it certainly seemed to work for Mr Alonso, so it is a tried and tested technique. However, due to the fact that we only have one set of tyres (where are sponsors when you need them?!), we will certainly need to come in for air and pick up a new 8 track. Consequently, we have called upon the members of our Bridge Team to assist with the driving duties. First up, “Old Jonesey”, who is a Class A front runner (which means that he finishes so far ahead of us that we don’t see him from one race to another) but his availability is subject to his commitment to another team, the “Burble B’s” which we are assured is a pun on words relating to fuzzy black and yellow creatures (get it, no we didn’t either!), very waspish!
We will also be supported by our Italian cousins, Marco Snellieni and Victorio Cravenelli. Indeed, so keen are we to make an impression, we have taken unprecedented steps and booked into the Cravenelli School of Motoring in order to perfect our technique at Snetterton. A graphic description of the way it is done can be seen from the photo below, which Mr Cravenelli assures us is, in Doctor speak, “NFN”!

The Montego Racing Team will be out in force with self proclaimed saviour of motor racing, Steve Twist and the Majestic Neil Sellers, both taking a turn at the wheel. Mr Sellers kindly taking a break from Burton Market where he normally peddles products from the Werthan Bag & Cotton Company.
Hoke’s sense of duty meant that he had to tell Team Guten Morgen that he was not a “free man”. Whilst Miss Daisy herself would have rejected any advances from her country cousins, in Team “Monty Zoomers”, who she felt did not come up to size consisting as it does of no less than 4 midgets.
With just 25 teams entered, we are optimistic that we will improve on our 34th place at Castle Combe.
